We set up a special dessert bar for the crowd who came downtown for Dayton's special shopping event "A Midsummer's Night Out." I love the dessert buffet in general as a party or wedding display. It is eye catching, offers variety and easy for guests to serve themselves. These are becoming more and more popular to accompany or even take the place of the traditional cake. We had several items for shoppers to sample: Brownies and blondies, two choices of meringue cookies, assorted chocolates, chocolate dipped strawberries, white chocolate dipped cherries, mini cupcakes, and glazed lemon cakes we call lemon drops. Of everything offered, those lemon drops were most popular, receiving rave reviews! We can't thank the shoppers enough for coming by to try our dessert buffet. Here are some photos, and I look forward to the next event we can showcase our delicious dessert table!
This week I've been busy, both making and planning wedding cakes. It seems a trend is emerging; non traditional wedding cakes! You always hear that the wedding and the cake should be a reflection of the bride and groom, right? Well, I am very pleased to share some of the more unique wedding cakes I've had the pleasure to create for couples who truly wanted to showcase their personalities with their cakes.
First up is the recent "Pirate" wedding cake I created for a couple and they couldn't have been happier with how it turned out. I was given a photo of a cake the bride really loved and asked to make a few changes to it to better fit their theme.
The next cake was made for a bride who proudly declared herself to be having a "Redneck wedding." Together we came up with a fun design, what redneck wedding would be complete without camo? I have received so much feedback from this cake. From the photo here on the website to the photos of it posted at the studio, people seem to really like this one. It was so much fun to make!
There is certainly a way to have a unique cake without straying too much from the traditional white cake. Take this Pac Man wedding cake I made; it is the little touches that make it personal to the bride and groom!
Thanks to all of my clients who choose me to help make their wedding day special! I am really looking forward to the upcoming wedding cakes on the schedule, both the traditional and completely unique!
This is a trend I hope stays around for a while. It is fun and chic at the same time! I have done many of these cakes now, in different colors, designs, and styles. Also, for many different ages! From Zee's cake with zebra stripes for her 50th birthday to a cheetah print baby shower cake, girls of all ages are loving animal prints. The prints can be done in buttercream or fondant to suit any one's taste.
Here's a look at a few I've done. Be sure to check out the many others in the photo galleries. From purses to polka dots, these prints go great with any shape and any design, and perfect for any trendy girl!
I consider the begining of spring to be the start of wedding season, and I couldn't be more excited about this year's cakes. I already have several beautiful wedding cakes and awesome groom's cakes lined up for the Spring and Summer wedding season. Of course Fall and Winter are not completely void of weddings, I had a number of those as well and they couldn't have been more wonderful! However, most couples choose Spring and Summer dates to tie the knot and who could blame them? The warm sunshine and blooming flowers make the perfect backdrop for an outdoor wedding. To start off my cake blog, I'll let you in on some inside details about my first spring wedding cake, and a sneak peek and the next one coming up soon!
Patricia was married on March 15th in a lovely outdoor ceremony and chose cranberry and silver as her wedding colors. Quick tip: she chose an indoor location for the cake, to ensure the weather didn't suprise anyone and that it was safe in case of rain. Here is a photo of her 3 tier cake.
She chose the elegant scrolls and swiss dots, as well as a classic monogram of the "C" she and her new husband will share! Her cake served about 60 guests, since she kept the top tier for their first anniversary. Cranberry in spring works perfectly, as does Tiffany blue in October! When it comes to wedding colors, anything goes. Its your day, make it about you and choose the colors you love; don't worry it will work!
Thanks to Patricia for allowing me to be a part of her special day!
